Way to go freedom!
December 17, 2005

It’s been a while since I wrote something meaningful. This one will be about piracy.

Piracy is something that has always existed. Experts recall the Atari time when only about 10% of the games played were bought, while the rest were either borrowed or pirated. The industry has learned to grow with piracy on their backs like in a symbiotic relation, where both parts benefit. The products pirated gains publicity while the pirates… they get the stuff for free.

Sony recently made a fool out of themselves, when users noticed that their products secretely installed software on your computer that logs your actions and sends it to their servers. In fact, the spy software that Sony used was pirated! Also, they have patented some kind of technology to make their PS3 games only work on one machine. That means that you can no longer lend/trade games with friends anymore! Sony = boycott.

What else? Hmm, TCPA. This means that soon all computers will have inbuild devices to spy on you and send your private information to their main servers. Yay, really looking forward to it.

Not too long ago, the European Union decided to “require all telephone and Internet traffic to be logged and stored for up to a year in order to help combat organized crime and terrorism”. That’s just totally freaking awesome dude! I am soo happy that some random dude will hear all I say and all the sites I surf. Does this mean I have to change some habits? ;)

I understand that the entertainment industry needs money. I do not understand why they are doing things about it now, when piracy has been going on forever and they have survived and suceeded during that time. Everyone’s doing it now. It is like every power hungry bitch has been thinking about what they want to do to gain more power and suddenly when one of them moves to action, a chain-reaction occurs.

It has to be like this. A compromise. We often hear that in debates, the two sides beliefs varies a lot, but as it goes along, their beliefs approaches each other. In the end when they settle the settlement lies somewhere in the middle. It has to be like this. In the future, capitalism and communism will reach a compromise. The democratic government will reach a compromise with the totalitarian one. People will look more like each other. Everything becomes a grayzone, and… and (forgot what I was about to say).. and we all get retarded and kill ourselves.

There is so much shit I can pour on the entertainment industry, but I won’t.

Why can’t people be like Benjamin Franklin? “The man who trades freedom for security does not deserve nor will he ever receive either.” That also means Benjamin believes that if you trade security for freedom you will deserve both and get both. If I remove all the locks from my house, no wait, all the doors too. Will that give me more freedom? Yes. Will that secure the house even more? Hell no, and hell might just be the place Benjamin Franklin is right now for trying to trick me.

Bah, forget about him. Just remember that I am superman and that you have to compromise. (BTW, my English is getting crappy again. Need I write more?)
